Temple University's Physics Department offers an interesting course called "The Science of Sound". Musicians, educators, and speech therapists generally take the course to learn the science behind their respective disciplines. As part of the course the class annually takes a field trip to tour our facilities and we discuss the science of piano design. The topics covered included the Pythagorean String Theory, the Overtone Series, sound transduction, and how these principles influence the modern and historic acoustic piano.
We all had a good time and there were a number of interesting discussions along the way. If you would like your group, studio, or family to have an experience like this, let us know by sending an email to piano@cunninghampiano.com . We are happy to help!
